Pins and firmness

Two numbers that decide whether a brush suits the coat.

Pin length: 11 mm

The length depends on the coat length. Short pins (11 mm) work close to the skin, for short to medium-length coats and detail areas. Medium pins (16 to 22 mm) for medium-length and curly coats. Long pins (25 to 35 mm) reach through dense, long coats into the undercoat.

Firmness: soft

Soft pins bend under pressure: for puppies, thin skin and fine coats. Firm pins hold up under pressure and work their way through dense undercoat. At Tauro Pro Line, the firmness is printed on the packaging as “Pins Solidity”. If in doubt, choose soft.

The bars compare Tauro Pro Line brushes with each other: one bar is the gentlest (11 mm soft, wooden pins), five the firmest. They say nothing about other brands.

For which coat

face, ears, paws; small dogs and puppies. Typical breeds: Cat, Puppy, Coton de Tuléar, Maltese, Yorkshire Terrier, Bichon Frise.

    Product description

    What the brush does

The round wooden slicker brush from Tauro Pro Line is the detail brush of the series. The round head has no corners to get caught on eyes, ears, or paws, and the 11 mm short stainless steel pins work close to the skin. You can use it to brush the face, beard, ears, armpits, belly, and legs – all the areas where a rectangular brush is unwieldy. For cats and small dogs, it is also sufficient as a single brush for the entire body.

    Why round

When brushing around joints and the head, you are constantly rotating the brush. A round head sits evenly during every rotation without any corners poking in. The elastic cushion gives way at bony edges; the pins are set at a 135° angle and have an anti-static coating. The handle is made of hardwood with a rubberized color layer, is non-slip, and lightweight at approximately 110 g.

    For whom

Cats of all coat lengths, puppies, Yorkshire Terriers, Maltese, Coton de Tuléar, Bichons, and any dogs whose faces require regular grooming. As a supplement to a large slicker brush for medium and large dogs.

    Use and care

    • Use special caution on the head; guide the brush away from the eye, never towards it.
    • In the direction of hair growth, using short strokes and no pressure.
    • Loosen stubborn knots behind the ears and in the armpits with your fingers; do not rip through them.
    • Cleaning: Pull out hair, wipe with a damp cloth if necessary, and store in a dry place. Do not submerge the wood in water.

    What makes this brush special

Wooden slicker, round head 9 × 19 cm
Angled stainless steel pins in the cushion of the slicker brush
    Pins at a 135° angle

The pins are angled and unground at the tip. They reach under the topcoat, separate the hair and loosen loose undercoat and early knots without cutting.

Slicker brush following the body’s shape on the hind leg
    Flexible cushion

The cushion under the pins gives way over bony edges. The pressure spreads out and the skin isn’t scratched, even at the armpits, ribs and hind legs.

Freshly brushed dog with a smooth coat
    Antistatic

The pins are coated, so the coat doesn’t build up static while brushing. No frizz, no flyaways, the coat lies flat after brushing.

    How to brush properly

    Four steps · five minutes

Always on a dry or slightly damp coat, always in the direction of hair growth, always without pressure. Let the brush rest on the coat under its own weight and keep your wrist relaxed.

On the head: away from the eye

Always guide the brush away from the eye, never towards it. Hold the beard and chin with your free hand and use short strokes.

    Step 2
Behind the ears and in the armpits

This is where mats form first. Lift the ear, brush in the direction of growth and tease tight knots apart with your fingers instead of ripping through them.

    Step 3
    Paws and legs

Lift the leg and turn the brush around the joint. The round head sits evenly in every turn.

    No pressure, plenty of praise

Just the weight of the brush. With cats and puppies, keep sessions short and end on a positive note – getting used to it matters more than how much hair comes out.

    Frequently asked questions

    Why a round head?

When brushing around joints and on the head, you turn the brush constantly. A round head sits evenly in every turn, without a corner poking into an eye, ear or paw.

Is it enough as the only brush?

For cats and dogs up to about 5 kg, yes. For larger dogs it complements the large slicker brush for the face, armpits, belly and legs.

    Purple or turquoise?

Purely a matter of taste. Both colours have the same soft 11 mm pins.

Does the brush scratch the skin?

Only if you press. The brush rests on its own weight and the cushion gives way. Work especially lightly on the head.

    How often?

Face and ears of long-haired breeds briefly every day, otherwise two to three times a week.

How do I care for the brush?

Pull out the hair, wipe with a damp cloth if needed and store dry. Do not immerse the wood in water.

    The maker

It all began with a poodle called Kika

Kika was the first dog of Janita J. Plungė, the founder of the Kika Group, to which Tauro Pro Line belongs. Her love for Kika became a profession: for over 35 years, Janita has been breeding and grooming Bichons Frisés, Maltese and Pomeranians.

Because nothing in the salon was good enough for her, she developed her own line. Every brush comes from that hands-on experience.
