Before it, the slicker brush loosens the knots. After it, the natural bristle brush adds the shine.

What makes a good pin brush

What matters, in four points.

Fingertip pressing on the stainless steel pins of a pin brush, the pins stay upright in the cushion

STOP technology

Each pin is held in the cushion by a stop. Nothing gets pushed in, nothing falls out, even after years. On all three models.

Pin brush with stainless steel pins next to a pin brush with hornbeam wooden pins

Stainless steel or wooden pins

Stainless steel brushes right down to the skin and massages. Hornbeam wood is gentler and doesn’t charge the coat with static: ideal for puppies and sensitive skin.

Three pin brushes in profile with short, medium and long stainless steel pins

Pin length by coat length

The longer the coat, the longer the pins: 17–22 mm for medium-length, 20–27 mm for long, 35 mm for very long or dense coats.

Prestige Collection

Pear wood, crafted in Germany: two of the three pin brushes. The more affordable wooden pin brush has the same STOP technology.

How to brush correctly

Four steps, two to four of them depending on the coat. Always on a dry or slightly damp coat, always in the direction of growth, always without pressure. The pin brush is step 3.

Pin brush
Step 3

Brush through with the pin brush

Long, calm strokes right down to the skin. The rounded pin tips massage without scratching. For the daily brush-through on long coats, this step alone is often enough.

The three most common mistakes
  • Pressure. A brush rests on its own weight. Red skin after brushing means: too much pressure or pins that are too long.
  • Only skimming the surface. Smooth the topcoat but leave the undercoat behind, and you get mats at the skin. Layer by layer, right down to the skin.
  • Raking when wet. Rake and slicker brush belong on a dry coat. Wet undercoat mats when you pull it.

Wir lieben diese Bürste!! Mega Produkt...

Wunderschöne handliche Bürste in Tauro Qualität!

The maker

It all began with a poodle called Kika

Kika was the first dog of Janita J. Plungė, the founder of the Kika Group, to which Tauro Pro Line belongs. Her love for Kika became a profession: for over 35 years, Janita has been breeding and grooming Bichons Frisés, Maltese and Pomeranians.

Because nothing in the salon was good enough for her, she developed her own line. Every brush comes from that hands-on experience.

Frequently asked questions

Does a pin brush replace the slicker brush?
No. Knots and undercoat are a job for the slicker brush. The pin brush comes afterwards and brushes through the detangled coat. Slicker first, then pin brush.
Stainless steel or wooden pins?
Stainless steel for anyone who wants to brush the coat right down to the skin. Wooden pins for puppies, kittens, sensitive skin and animals that don’t like metal.
What is STOP technology?
A stop in the cushion that prevents pins from being pushed in or falling out. The pin pattern stays even for years. All three pin brushes have it.
Wooden pin brush or Prestige?
The same principle in use. Prestige is pear wood, crafted in Germany, with three pin lengths up to 35 mm. The wooden pin brush from Lithuania is the affordable alternative for medium-length coats.
Which pin length?
17 to 22 mm for medium-length coats, 27 mm for long coats, 35 mm for very long or very dense coats such as the Afghan Hound, Old English Sheepdog or Newfoundland.
Can I brush with pressure?
Light pressure, yes. The rounded pin tips massage the skin without scratching. That is the difference from the slicker brush.
Suitable for cats?
Yes. The wooden pin brush is the gentlest in the range and is made for cats and kittens.
How do I care for a wooden pin brush?
Pull out the hair and wipe with a damp cloth if needed. Never soak the wood and don’t dry it on a radiator.

Pin brush, wire pin brush, dog brush with rounded pins

Pin brush, wire pin brush or bristle-free dog brush: it always means the brush with long, individually set pins with rounded tips on a flexible cushion. It doesn’t loosen knots; it brushes through detangled coats and massages the skin as it goes. Tauro Pro Line makes it in wood with STOP technology and, in the Prestige Collection, in pear wood with stainless steel or wooden pins, crafted in Germany.
