What the firmness level means

Firmer is not automatically better. The firmness says how deep the brush reaches into the coat – and that depends on your dog's coat.

    The Mat Zapper is not a substitute for daily brushing, but rather the tool for emergencies: tough knots and matted plates. Its particularly firm, upright bristle arrangement breaks up felting that normal brushes fail to tackle – often the last alternative to shearing.

    A good fit if your dog …

    • has firm knots or matted areas, for example behind the ears or in the armpits
    • has not been brushed for a long time and the coat is matted
    • suddenly has matted fur after rain, bathing or a holiday

    Better a different one if …

    • you are looking for a brush for everyday use – Green, Purple, Gold and Silver are for this purpose
    • your dog has very thin fur – the manufacturer advises against it
    • the skin under the felt is already sore or irritated – then please consult a groomer or vet

    How to remove matting correctly

    Four steps · calmly, not with force

    The Mat Zapper is a special tool: it goes on the matted spot only, not through the whole coat. Hold the coat above the knot and work from below, and the mat comes free without pulling on the skin.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does it hurt the dog?

    Not if you go about it correctly: start at the bottom of the knot, hold the coat with your hand above the knot and work in small pieces. Never chop into the mat and never drag it along the whole coat.

    Can I use it daily?

    No. The Mat Zapper is meant for matted spots only. For daily care, use the brush that suits your dog's coat type.

    Which breeds is it for?

    For all breeds and coat types with matting. Not recommended for dogs with very thin hair.

    What else helps?

    A detangling spray before you start makes the mat more pliable and you get through much more easily.
