Three families, five brushes

The brushes differ in two things: how firm they are and what they were built for. Together those two make up the whole range.

Pro BrushDaily Care

For every day. Detangles, frees loose undercoat and keeps the coat in order before knots form.

Finishing BrushShedding & Finish

Twice as many bristles as the Pro Brush. For shedding season and for the final touch, once the coat is already detangled.

Special ToolMatted Coats Only

These brushes belong together:

Why a brush costs €68.90

From the outside one dog brush looks like another. The difference lies in four things – and your dog notices it first.

The brush head flexes sideways

The head gives way

It follows ribs, shoulders and thighs instead of skipping over them. That is how you reach the places where knots form first.

Rounded bristle tips

Round tips, not needles

The bristle ends are rounded. That lets the brush reach the skin without scratching – even with daily use.

Arrangement of the bristles in the pad

The bristle pad

Spacing and arrangement are the real craft: they grip loose hair and leave the healthy hair standing. The Finishing Brushes have twice as many bristles as the Pro Brushes.

The handle sits in the hand

The handle

Balanced and non-slip. After ten minutes of grooming you feel the difference in your wrist.

Les Poochs has been building these brushes for over 30 years, the bristle pads are patented – and a brush lasts for many years.

What five minutes achieve

Short and regular beats long and rare. Five minutes a day keep the coat open – and spare your dog the long session at the weekend.

How to brush correctly

Applies to every brush except the Mat Zapper – that one opens the matting first, then one of the other four takes over.

Step 1
Start at the neck

Work towards the tail – always in the direction of the handle, never sideways.

Step 2
Short, even strokes

Do not chop into the coat and do not stay in one spot.

Work without pressure AIImage optimised or generated with AI
Step 3
Work without pressure

The flexible head does the work, not your strength.

Step 4
Check the knot spots

Ears, armpits and inner thighs – knots form there first.

The three most common mistakes
  • Chopping into the coat. Short, even strokes instead of blows from above.
  • Pulling sideways. Always work in the direction of the handle.
  • Staying in one spot. Better twice briefly over the area than ten times over the same point.

Find your breed

We recommend by coat type rather than by breed – coats vary a lot even within one breed. As a pointer, the breed still helps.

Frequently searched

Single or Wide?

The same brush, just narrow or wide. The Wide head is twice as broad – 4.5 cm against 9 cm.

Single 4.5 cm
4,5 cm Single
Wide 9 cm
9 cm Wide
Single · 4.5 cm

Dogs up to approx. 20 kg. And on every dog for face, paws, legs and tight spots.

Wide · 9 cm

Dogs from approx. 20 kg and all large areas: back, flanks, tail.

Many with a big dog take both: the wide one for large areas, the narrow one for ears and paws. Not sure? Write us briefly on WhatsApp – we'll look at it together.

Frequently asked questions

Which brush suits my dog?
The coat decides, not the breed. Tap in the brush finder above what applies – we'll show you the right one. If the coat is already matted, the Mat Zapper comes first, then the brush for the coat type.
How often should I brush?
Short and regular beats long and rare. Five minutes a day keep the coat open and spare your dog the long session at the weekend. During shedding season it may be a little more.
Single 4.5 cm or Wide 9 cm?
Up to about 20 kg, Single is enough. From 20 kg, Wide is considerably faster on large areas. Many with a big dog take both: the wide one for the back, the narrow one for ears, paws and legs.
Does the brush scratch the skin?
The bristle ends are rounded, and you need no pressure – the flexible head does the work. For very fine or thin coats take the Green or the Gold Brush instead of the firm Purple.
How do I clean the brush?
Pull loose hair out of the bristle pad, wipe the head with a damp cloth and let it dry lying flat. Not in the dishwasher and never left standing in water – over time that loosens the bonding of the bristles.
My dog is matted – what do I do first?
The Mat Zapper first, with circular movements from a firm wrist. Do not chop into the mat. After that the brush that suits the coat type takes over. If the mats sit tight against the skin, take your dog to a groomer.
How long does delivery take?
Within Germany usually 1–2 days. Details on international shipping are on our shipping terms page.
Can I return the brush if it does not fit?
Yes, the 14-day right of withdrawal applies, and within Germany returns are free. Feel free to write to us first – often it is only the wrong firmness, and we simply exchange it.

    Les Poochs dog brushes

Les Poochs brushes are slicker brushes. Instead of gliding over the coat, the fine stainless steel bristles reach down to the skin and pull loose undercoat out before it turns into knots. During shedding season the Silver Brush takes on the job of a deshedding brush; on matted coats the Mat Zapper is the dematting brush that opens the mats first.

They have been built in the USA for over 30 years, mainly for grooming salons. The bristle pads are patented, handle and head are ultrasonically welded rather than glued. That explains the price – and why the same brush is still in use years later.

At Cotonluv you get all five firmness levels in both widths: Single 4.5 cm for small areas, Wide 9 cm for large ones. Whether Coton de Tuléar, Golden Retriever, Australian Shepherd or Poodle – what matters is not the breed but whether the coat is fine, dense, woolly or double.
