Bristles and firmness

What the bristle can do, and which coat it is made for.

Bristle: pure boar bristle

Natural bristles don’t loosen knots. Boar bristle and horsehair are slightly scaly: they pick up dust and skin oils and spread the oil from root to tip. That is the shine metal can’t create. Nylon pins in between reach the skin through long coats, and metal wires lift dandruff out of short coats.

Firmness: soft

Soft bristles for finishing, shine and sensitive skin. Medium firmness when nylon or wire is included: the brush reaches deeper and massages. Never use wire on long or curly coats.

The bars compare Tauro Pro Line brushes with each other: one bar is the gentlest (wooden pins, pure natural bristle), five the firmest.

For which coat

all coat lengths as a finish, the only brush for short coats. Typical breeds: Labrador, Beagle, Retriever, Spaniel, Setter, Collie, Havanese, Coton de Tuléar.

    Product description

    What the brush does

The Prestige brush with pure boar bristles is the finishing brush. It does not detangle knots or remove undercoat, but it does what no metal brush can: it removes dust and dander from the coat, distributes natural skin oils from the roots to the tips, and smooths the hair cuticles. The coat then shines, lies flat, and does not become statically charged. In the salon, this is the final step before the ring; at home, it is the conclusion of every grooming session. The Prestige Collection is manufactured in Germany.

    Natural bristle

Boar bristles are firm, slightly scaly, and set in dense tufts. When brushing, they absorb oil and dirt and redistribute the oil evenly. The body is made of beech wood, finished in black lacquer, 23.5 cm long, and features an ergonomic handle. The brush is antistatic and, due to its light weight, is comfortable even for long brushing sessions.

    For whom

Dogs and cats with medium to long coats as a finish after using a slicker or pin brush: Retrievers, Spaniels, Setters, Collies, Havanese, Coton de Tulear, and long-haired cats. Also suitable for short, smooth coats, where it is often sufficient as the only brush. For show dogs, the go-to brush for that final shine.

    Application and care

    • On detangled, dry fur, as the final step.
    • In the direction of hair growth, using long strokes from root to tip, preferably with light pressure.
    • Cleaning: Remove hair from the bristles with a comb. Every few weeks, rinse the bristles with lukewarm water and mild shampoo, then let it dry head down. Do not soak the wood.

    In short

    A good fit if …

    • you want a final shine after using a slicker or pin brush – Retrievers, Spaniels, Setters, Collies, Havanese
    • your dog has short, smooth fur and is groomed daily – Labradors, Beagles
    • you attend dog shows
    • your cat enjoys being brushed but dislikes metal

Better a different tool if …

    • the fur has knots or undercoat – the slicker brush detangles those first
    • you want to reach the skin in long, dense fur – then use the nylon-boar bristle brush
    • you want to remove undercoat during shedding season – the undercoat rake does that

    The final step

Natural bristles don’t loosen knots. They come after the slicker and pin brush. For short coats they are the only step, and the brush is all you need.

    How to brush properly

    Four steps · five minutes

The natural bristle brush is the final step. On detangled, dry fur, use long strokes from the roots to the tips, preferably with light pressure – this moves the skin's natural oils into the hair.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does the brush remove knots?

No. Natural bristles brush over the coat, not through it. Knots and undercoat are loosened by the slicker brush; this brush comes afterwards for shine and finish.

    Why boar bristle?

The bristle is firm and slightly scaly. It picks up oil and dirt and spreads the oil evenly over the hair. This smooths the cuticle – hence the shine that metal can’t create.

Is it enough on its own for short coats?

For smooth short coats without undercoat, yes. For short coats with dense undercoat, such as a Labrador in shedding season, the undercoat rake helps beforehand.

Boar bristle or horsehair with wire?

Pure boar bristle is the softer finishing brush for all coat lengths. The horsehair massage brush has metal wires that remove dandruff and loose hair from short coats – the more thorough choice for short hair.

    What does Prestige Collection mean?

Tauro Pro Line’s Prestige brushes are made in Germany: wooden body in beech or pear wood, bristles from natural materials.

How do I clean the bristles?

Pull the hair out with a comb. Every few weeks, rinse with lukewarm water and a mild shampoo and leave to dry head down. Never soak the wood.

Historical photo: young woman holding a black poodle in her arms
    The maker

It all began with a poodle called Kika

Kika was the first dog of Janita J. Plungė, the founder of the Kika Group, to which Tauro Pro Line belongs. Her love for Kika became a profession: for over 35 years, Janita has been breeding and grooming Bichons Frisés, Maltese and Pomeranians.

Because nothing in the salon was good enough for her, she developed her own line. Every brush comes from that hands-on experience.
