Two rows of teeth on a rotating head

Two details make the difference between this rake and an ordinary comb.

The head rotates with you

A fixed head catches as soon as you change direction or hit a denser patch – and that resistance goes straight to the hair root. This head is mounted on an axle and follows the contour and the direction you pull.

0.8 mm and 0.6 mm

The coarser row takes out the bulk first, the finer one picks up what is left. The tooth tips are rounded: they pull the loose undercoat out rather than shortening the topcoat.

Why this rake
  • Swiveling head – follows the movement instead of tilting
  • Two tooth spacings in one tool: 0.8 mm and 0.6 mm
  • Rounded tooth tips that pull out loose undercoat
  • Three working widths: 45, 76, and 110 mm

Which size fits your dog?

Pick the size by the dog, not by how much it sheds. All three heads carry the same teeth – only the working width differs.

Not sure? Take the smaller one. It reaches everywhere, it just takes a little longer.

For cats, small dogs up to approximately 10 kg, and for detailed areas such as the head, legs, and behind the ears.

    Product description

    What the rake does

During shedding season the undercoat dies off, but it does not simply fall out. It stays caught between the guard hairs, packs together and seals the skin off from the air – that is the point where itching, dandruff and matting start. The Tauro Pro Line undercoat rake pulls exactly that loose wool out before it becomes a problem. And before it ends up on the sofa, the carpet and the back seat.

    The rotating head

The head is not fixed to the handle, it is mounted so it can rotate. It follows the contour of the body and the direction you pull, instead of catching in the coat. That takes tension off the hair root – for the animal, combing feels noticeably calmer. The tooth tips are rounded: they pull the loose undercoat out rather than shortening the topcoat.

Two tooth spacings in one tool

The head carries two rows of stainless steel with different tooth spacing: 0.8 mm and 0.6 mm. The coarser row takes out the bulk first, the finer one picks up what is left. Two working steps, one tool.

    Which size fits

The size follows the animal, not the amount of coat. S (45 mm) for cats, small dogs up to around 10 kg and for detail areas such as the head, legs and behind the ears. M (76 mm) for medium dogs of roughly 10 to 25 kg. L (110 mm) for large dogs from around 25 kg and everything with a lot of coat volume.

    Use and care

    • Only on a dry, tangle-free coat. Loosen firm knots and mats with a dematting tool first.
    • Always in the direction of hair growth, with long, calm strokes. Never against the grain, not sideways, and do not stay in one spot.
    • Work without pressure. The weight of the tool is enough; pressing down only irritates the skin.
    • Recommended frequency: once or twice a week, and five to ten minutes daily during shedding season.
    • Do not use on irritated or broken skin, or on single-layer coats without undercoat (Poodle, Maltese, Bichon, Shih Tzu, Doodle).
    • Cleaning: pull the hair out of the teeth by hand, wipe dry or with a slightly damp cloth, then dry immediately. That keeps the rotating head running smoothly.

    In short

Two rows of stainless steel teeth on a rotating head: the rake follows your movement instead of catching in the fur. It removes loose undercoat with rounded tooth tips that leave the topcoat intact. Three working widths, so the size fits the dog and not the other way around.

    A good fit if …

    • your dog has a double coat or thick undercoat
    • it is currently shedding season and there are clumps of fur everywhere
    • you have a husky, German shepherd, Australian shepherd, golden retriever, or spitz
    • your cat has a lot of undercoat – Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest Cat, British Shorthair

Better a different tool if …

    • your dog has a single-layered coat – Poodles, Maltese, Bichons, Shih Tzus, or Doodles
    • the coat is wet – the rake only works on dry hair
    • matted fur is already present – remove this first with a dematting tool
    • the skin is irritated or injured

    Which size suits your pet?

Same teeth · three working widths

What matters is the size of the animal, not the amount of coat. All three heads work with the same rows of teeth – only the width changes, and with it how quickly you get through large areas.

If in doubt, choose the smaller size: it reaches everywhere, it just takes you a little longer. If you groom several dogs of different sizes, S and L are your best bet.

    Why this rake works differently

Two details that make the difference

An undercoat rake stands or falls on two things: how the head is mounted and how closely the teeth are spaced. Both are solved differently here than on a simple comb.

    The head turns with you

A rigid head jams as soon as you change direction or hit a denser spot – and that resistance goes straight to the hair root. Here the head is mounted so it can rotate: it follows the contours of the body and the direction of your stroke. That takes the tension out of each pull, and combing feels calmer for the animal.

    Two tooth spacings, one tool

The head has two rows of stainless steel teeth with different spacing: 0.8 mm and 0.6 mm. Use the coarser row first to remove the bulk, then follow up with the finer one. The tooth tips are rounded – they pull out the loose undercoat instead of cutting the topcoat.

    How to comb properly

    Four steps · five minutes

The rotating head does the work, not your strength. Working without pressure gets you deeper into the coat and keeps the animal relaxed.

Start dry and tangle-free AIImage optimised or generated with AI
    Step 1
    Start dry and tangle-free

The rake only works on a dry coat. Loosen larger knots with a dematting tool first – otherwise it will pull.

Work in the direction of growth AIImage optimised or generated with AI
    Step 2
Work in the direction of growth

Start at the neck and work towards the tail. Long, calm strokes – never against the grain and never sideways.

Use without pressure AIImage optimised or generated with AI
    Step 3
    Use without pressure

The tool's own weight is enough. Pressing down irritates the skin and still won't remove any more undercoat.

Section by section, and briefly AIImage optimised or generated with AI
    Step 4
    Section by section, and briefly

Five to ten minutes at a time is plenty. Leave the armpits, inner thighs and the area behind the ears until last and be especially gentle there.

    Rake, brush or blade?

    Every tool has its job

The difference lies in how they work: some tools pull out the loose undercoat, others cut it off.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which size do I need?

Go by your pet's body size, not the amount of coat. S (45 mm) for cats, small dogs up to about 10 kg and for detail areas. M (76 mm) for medium-sized dogs of roughly 10 to 25 kg. L (110 mm) for large dogs from about 25 kg. If in doubt, choose the smaller size – it reaches everywhere, it just takes a little longer.

Does the rake cut the coat?

No. The teeth have rounded tips and pull out the loose undercoat instead of shortening the topcoat. Technique is what matters: no pressure, in the direction of growth, and don't stay in one spot.

How often should I use it?

The manufacturer recommends once or twice a week. During the spring and autumn shedding season, five to ten minutes a day is better than half an hour once a week.

What is the difference from the FURminator®?

The FURminator® works with a blade that has a cutting edge. This rake has two rows of rounded teeth on a rotating head – it pulls the undercoat out instead of cutting it. That makes it slower, but gentler on the topcoat.

Does it work on cats too?

Yes, on cats with a dense undercoat such as the Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest Cat, Siberian or British Shorthair. Use size S and work in short sessions – in cats, the chest, belly and hindquarters mat first.

My dog has knots – can I start with the rake?

No. In firm knots and mats the head catches and pulls. Loosen mats with a dematting tool first or have a groomer work them out, then use the rake.

    Why two different tooth spacings?

The head has two rows of teeth: 0.8 mm and 0.6 mm. The wider spacing removes the bulk, and the finer one follows up to catch the remaining undercoat. Two tools in one.

How do I clean and care for it?

Simply pull the hair out of the teeth by hand as you go. Wipe it dry or with a slightly damp cloth, then dry it immediately. That keeps the rotating head running smoothly and the stainless steel shiny.

Is it suitable for puppies too?

Yes, as soon as the undercoat starts to develop. Use size S, keep sessions very short and make it a positive experience – with puppies, getting used to it matters more than the amount of hair.

    The maker

It all began with a poodle called Kika

Kika was the first dog of Janita J. Plungė, the founder of the Kika Group, to which Tauro Pro Line belongs. Her love for Kika became a profession: for over 35 years, Janita has been breeding and grooming Bichons Frisés, Maltese and Pomeranians.

Because nothing in the salon was good enough for her, she developed her own line. Every brush comes from that hands-on experience.
